Don't worry about making mistakes

I made a new video on my channel about making mistakes in language learning.

Don't worry about making mistakes too much and stay away from teachers who are too strict to beginners. This will all slow you down and create unnecessary stress and will lead you nowhere. Correcting mistakes is of course necessary but it is almost an art form. There is a time and place for every correction and talented and experienced teachers know when to correct a student.

  1. I'm glad that you made a new video :-) I agree with you that a strict teachers can make beginners or even advanced feel embarrassed because of theirs mistakes but on the other side I know from my own experience that having a very strict teacher can be a good solution. During the first year of secondary school I hated English because my teacher was very strict. She was giving us lots of homeworks after every lesson and we had tests on almost every lesson. But after few months the situation became normal for me and I loved English because I discovered that the more I have to learn vocabulary or grammar stuctures and excercises the more I remember them. So I think that strict teacher can help you if he/she knows how to motivate his/her students. In my case the pressure was very helpful.

    1. Hi Marta, thank you for the comment:)

I'm glad that it worked out for you. Seeking excellence is not bad, what I meant more was overcorrection. In either way, if your results are good, then the teacher's work is good too.

  2. Hi Vladimir!

Thanks so much for posting all these videos recently, they are a massive help to language learners! I have a question about speaking. Obviously with friends, conversation is free-flowing, but for maybe shorter conversations on Skype etc, do you prepare before-hand? Perhaps noting down new structures or words that you want to try using in the conversation, or do you simply speak without worry or preparation?

    1. Hi Rom,

      thank you for the comment.

It depends, but in general I don't prepare. The only time I do is when I haven't use the language for a very long time. I usually go through vocabulary lists or old notes to 'warm up' a bit. Other than that I don't really prepare.

I'll try to make more videos:)
