How to improve your accent

A video with short tips about accent improvement.

Several people have asked me to post a video about how I go about acquiring a good accent in the foreign language I study. I'm not sure whether what I do will help everyone but maybe you will find some inspiration from what I do and adjust it to your learning style.

  1. Completely agree with this - TONS of intensive listening is instrumental to developing a good accent, as well as training up our listening skills - deconstructing sounds, splitting words, diction (hesitating, pausing, emphasis, etc.), linking semantic and phonetic meaning. It's definitely overwhelming in the beginning stages especially with a language that shares no cognates with your native ones, but I think this overwhelming effect can potentially pay huge dividends in the long term.

Those experiments with sound organs sound very helpful as well - you can really test out how you produce sounds. If you have a great ear, you can probably validate whether you're pronouncing right or not, if not perhaps with a native speaker.

As a side note, I think it's amazing you have not just a perfect American accent, but you're able to emulate a particular personality within that accent that's perfectly in sync with the accent - not that I'm in a position to judge, I can't imagine how many hours of input you've poured into each language, and the depth of knowledge you have for each language from a holistic perspective. 超讚的!
